About the Method
What is the Grief Recovery Method?
“Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss of any kind. The problem is that we’ve been taught to believe that these feelings are abnormal and unnatural.”
— The Grief Recovery Handbook
The Grief Recovery Method is an evidence-based, action-oriented approach developed by the Grief Recovery Institute and used in every program Holly leads.
Rather than only talking about loss, you take small, guided actions each week that help you complete what was left unsaid — so you can move forward without staying stuck.
- Action-based, not just talk therapy. Every step has a homework piece you do between sessions.
- 40+ types of loss. Death, divorce, retirement, pet loss, career change, loss of trust, and more.
- Time-limited. Most programs run 8 weeks — you finish with tools you carry for life.
- Confidential. What happens in the group stays in the group.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked
How long does a program last?
Most group and individual programs run 8 weeks, with one session per week. Workshops and community outreach can be a single talk or a multi-week series, depending on what your group needs.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary by program and Restoring Hearts Outreach is a nonprofit — we keep fees as accessible as possible and offer scholarships when needed. Contact Holly for current pricing and any sponsorship options.
Do I have to be religious to participate?
No. The Grief Recovery Method is not faith-based. Our church programs are faith-friendly partnerships, but every program is open to people of any belief or none.
Will I be expected to share in front of strangers?
Sharing is invited but never forced. Holly creates a confidential, no-pressure environment. The work is most powerful when you participate, but at your own pace.
What kinds of loss does this address?
The method addresses 40+ kinds of loss — death of a loved one, divorce, retirement, pet loss, loss of health, career change, empty nest, loss of trust or faith, and more.
Is this counseling or therapy?
No. This is evidence-based grief recovery education and action. Holly is a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, not a licensed therapist. The method complements counseling and many people use both.
How do I sign up?
Contact Holly directly for the current class schedule and to talk through which program is the best fit. Group classes start on a regular cadence; one-on-one sessions can begin anytime.
