From Loss Upon Loss to Healing in Community

Several years ago, I went through what I can only describe as a year of hell. In just eleven months, I experienced loss after loss—each one more heartbreaking than the last. It began in February with the death of my beloved Granny and ended in December with the passing of my sister-in-law’s mother.

In between those two bookends of grief, I lost much more than loved ones. I lost my identity, my reputation after being briefly incarcerated (just a few hours, but traumatic nonetheless), and I faced the pain of two divorces—my own and my son’s. I said goodbye to the matriarch of our family, Mama Shaver, and endured the unimaginable loss of a parent to suicide and my only sister to cancer.

For years, I isolated myself, buried under the weight of grief and trauma. But my healing journey took a profound turn when I went through the certification process of the Grief Recovery Method. It was there I experienced a breakthrough—one that opened the door to a deeper, wider healing than I ever imagined possible.

The Grief Recovery Method taught me something life-changing: there is healing in community. While nothing can replace all I lost, I gained something beautiful—a new family. A family of others who have also faced unimaginable grief and found healing, strength.

The Grief Recovery Method works.
